Art Moves
Art Moves, a partnership between LASALLE and tcc – The Connoisseur Concerto, is a year-long travelling exhibition featuring artworks by LASALLE BA(Hons) Fine Arts graduates.
Art Moves turns the traditional exhibition model on its head by bringing art to audience, engaging potential buyers outside the ambiance and environment of a gallery space and providing a springboard for these LASALLE graduates to launch their art careers.
2018
Following the successes of two previous seasons, LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE) and The Connoisseur Concerto (tcc) are pleased to embark on another exciting year-long partnership through Art Moves III – a year-long exhibition of artworks in tcc cafés by 16 recent BA(Hons) Fine Arts graduates from LASALLE. With an introduction of interactive dialog cards within the cafes, this season looks to encourage tcc patrons to take a closer look at artworks on display while enjoying their coffee.
Overseeing the exhibition and a series of educational workshops as artists-curators are Nicolette Teo and See Kian Wee, recipients of the tcc-LASALLE Artist-Curator Alumni Award. Beyond each receiving a generous sponsorship of S$25,000 from tcc in support of their practice, Nicolette and Kian Wee will also be continuously mentored by LASALLE during this one-year curatorship. As participating artists within the exhibition as well, Art Moves serves as a valuable opportunity for these young Fine Arts graduates to experience what it means to be a practising artist and a curator of artworks within a dialogical space – both of which are integral aspects of the profession.
Head of LASALLE’s McNally School of Fine Arts, Dr S. Chandrasekaran, shared: “Art Moves is an excellent platform for our graduates to further the pursuit of their vision, and to grow as artists. I am always proud of the work they have accomplished, and eagerly anticipate how their futures will develop.”
In addition to the range of affordable artworks on show (from prints and photographs, to paintings and installation), the curators also hope to engage patrons of tcc through dialog cards. Unlike the usual artist statements appended to works in galleries, open-ended questions will be written onto these cards instead. This move seeks to connect patrons more deeply with the works on showcase by provoking thought and conversation. A painting of mangosteens on newsprint by participating artist Fiona Koh, for example, invites the viewer to consider everyday fruits and objects that hold special significance to them.
“Art can sometimes be thought of as a form that is difficult to access. But through this interactive activity, we hope to break down the barriers between the viewer, the art and the artist. If people can better understand themselves and the artists through this process, then our goal is accomplished, because art should bring all of us closer,” said Nicolette.
Art Moves began in 2015 as a means to bring art to a wider audience beyond a traditional gallery setting, and to provide new artists a chance to expand their horizons straight after graduating from LASALLE. A portion of the proceeds from artwork sales will be donated to the loveLASALLE Education Fund, which provides bursaries to financially disadvantaged students at LASALLE.

2016
In an ambitious new alumni support initiative, LASALLE College of the Arts is partnering with tcc – The Connoisseur Concerto to present Art Moves, a year-long travelling exhibition featuring over 50 artworks by 10 recent BA(Hons) Fine Arts graduates.
Art Moves turns the traditional exhibition model on its head by bringing art to audience, engaging potential buyers outside the ambience and environment of a gallery space and providing a springboard for these LASALLE graduates to launch their art careers.
The exhibition is curated by Dr S. Chandrasekaran, artist and Senior Lecturer from LASALLE’s Faculty of Fine Arts. Said Chandra: “The main aim is to provide continuous support to our alumni artists. The invaluable support from companies like tcc – The Connoisseur Concerto provides these young alumni with a platform to continue their practices.”
During the course of the 12-month exhibition, the artworks displayed at Raffles Xchange will rotate with those at The Pier @ Robertson to expose them to a wider audience, while new exhibits will be showcased at the tcc ‘The Gallery’ at Circular Road.
A series of arts workshops, talks, and “Get To Know The Artist” activities are also being planned to further deepen engagement between the artists and their audience. The artworks span a wide variety of themes and media, from paintings and drawings to prints, photographs, ceramics and installations. Most of the exhibited artworks retail in the affordable art price range of between S$100 to S$1,000, with certain larger pieces going for between S$1,000 to S$3,000.
A portion of the proceeds from artwork sales will be donated to the loveLASALLE Education Fund, which provides bursaries to financially disadvantaged students at LASALLE.
