Estella Ng, a BA(Hons) Arts Management student and Anglo-Chinese Junior College alumna, shares her personal experiences on taking the road less travelled after her ‘A’ Levels and her LASALLE experience so far!
Hello! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Performing arts (music, dance, and theatre) have always been a huge part of my life. I started learning the piano when I was eight, got involved in contemporary dance since I was in Secondary School and I was a Theatre Studies and Drama student in Junior College. I could not see myself pursuing any other career path than the arts.
LASALLE teaches me to be both artistic and entrepreneurial which aids me in realising my dream of becoming an Artistic Director of my own theatre company someday.
What made you choose LASALLE and why?
Confucius puts it perfectly – “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
I chose to study in LASALLE because being surrounded by arts enthusiasts like myself not only refuels my passion for the arts every day but also pushes me to give my all for what I love. I am constantly thinking about and engaging in the arts and I love it. The support for my passion that I have gained in LASALLE cannot be found in any other university in Singapore.
Your biggest challenge in LASALLE is…
After becoming a student in LASALLE, it became a huge reality check for me that I still have a lot to learn to be the best in the arts industry. Letting go of my pride and having a humble, learning heart can be difficult, but when I am able to do so I find myself growing so much more.
Favourite part about studying in LASALLE is…
I love how I am surrounded by the arts everyday! I can look outside my classroom window and find dancers rehearsing, or if I want to visit an art gallery we have five of them on our campus. Every so often there will also be short films or performances showcased by the Acting, Musical Theatre, Film or Animation students. At LASALLE, there is beauty all around you and everyone exudes abounding passion for the arts.
