Siti Amirah, a BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries student and Pioneer Junior College alumna, shares her personal experiences on taking the road less travelled after her ‘A’ Levels and her LASALLE experience so far!
Hello! Tell us a bit about yourself.
I have always loved dressing up and picking my own clothes since I was young. However, I only realised my flair for fashion when I created a series of fashion illustrations for my ‘O’ Level Art examination.
Since then, I made LASALLE my dream school and looked to pursue a career in the fashion industry. It is my belief that fashion has the power to build confidence, and as a stylist, I hope to create more awareness for local designers.
What made you choose LASALLE and why?
I have always wanted to go to LASALLE but I had to postpone my dream till after ‘A’ Levels, due to my parents’ request. At a sharing session with Circe Henestrosa (Programme Leader, BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries), my parents finally witnessed what it was about LASALLE that I was so impressed with. The programme itself is very unique as it teaches us skills which are relevant to the fashion industry today – public relations, branding, marketing, etc. These skills are definitely applicable in the working world, regardless of industry.
Your biggest challenge in LASALLE is...
The cost of materials for assignments is quite substantial. However, the College is really supportive, informing us of bursary and scholarship application dates. This has definitely helped me to cope.
Favourite part about studying in LASALLE is...
The best part about studying in LASALLE is definitely the campus! My friends are always in awe and jealous of me because of the structure and design of the campus. I love how there is a cafe where everyone from different programmes come together and hang out. I love that there are exhibitions held at the galleries, events and performances by students from different programmes held on campus. College life is lively and exciting!
