LASALLE College of the Arts is publishing Singapore’s first critical art journal entitled ISSUE. The annual publication is produced by Milenko Prvacki, Senior Fellow at LASALLE in collaboration with a guest editor each year.
ISSUE seeks to gather a range of practices, much of which are the result of intensive research. The majority of the articles are image-based, offering different practices in the region as well as the Middle East.
Said Prvacki, “We hope that ISSUE will act as an interdisciplinary tool to stimulate dialogue and collaboration between people working in the arts, not only in Asia but around the world.”
Each edition will focus on a specific “issue” through explorations & discussions across various art forms, projects, essays, exhibitions & interviews.
On the issue of LAND
The journal comes into being as the publication aligned with LASALLE’s annual art workshop and exhibition project Tropical Lab. In 2012, the sixth Tropical Labfocussed on the subject of LAND.
This first volume features guest editor Dr. Charles Merewether, Director of the Institute of Contemporary Art Singapore. He explained, “The condition and future of LAND is fragile, even precarious, under the pressure of development. This has encouraged greater exploration and research of its history, both in its telling and as a point around which to argue for its existing value.”
Contributors include Jananne Al-Ani, Lawrence Chin, Choy Ka Fai, Nigel Helyer, Werner Herzog, Charles Lim, Eunseon Park, Paul Rae, Rachel Swain, Syntfarm, Zhao Renui and Dr Charles Merewether.
The journal will be distributed free this first year. The public is invited to attend the official launch.
