The Business Times reviews The Beach That Never Was, an exhibition at the Earl Lu Gallery, Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore. This artist-curated contemporary art exhibition aims to explore the idea of home, from the viewpoint of artists who have left theirs to study or work abroad.
Ms Bala Starr, Director, ICA Singapore, explained: “Artist-curated exhibitions like The Beach That Never Was are important because the loop between ideas, research, studio practice, presentation and audience is smaller, less mediated... They offer an opportunity to get close to artists and to better understand their friendships and networks because it’s not just the artwork in which they have invested so much; it’s the exhibition-making and project development too.”
