To mark Sungei Road flea market's closure next year, LASALLE College of the Arts president Professor Steve Dixon along with his wife, artist Prue Dixon, is holding an exhibition of artworks made from his buys there. Titled Prue Dixon and Steve Dixon: Things in translation … ἀθηρηλοιγός, the showcase invents languages and narratives to chart a journey where things become some things else, as they are carried across time, space and imagination.
On the 20 dioramas presented, which comprise half of the 2,000 figurines he bought from the flea market, Professor Steve Dixon said, "It is hard to describe, but I want to give new meaning through the way I present and combine figurines to create scenes.
"I'm glad that I can use my artistic skills to express my appreciation for this market, which - in my opinion - is a special Singapore landmark."
